In the late 1960s, a skilled craftsman made his way to McAllen, Texas, from a tiny Mexican border town.** *Not long after his arrival, Guadalupe Cantu built and sold a small home in the Mission, Texas, area.
It would be the first of many homes built by a man whose name has become synonymous with quality construction.
Fast forward to 1978, when Guadalupe`s son Alonzo began working for his dad. Alonzo took no time showing he had the same high-quality construction traits his dad had made a living from. Through his tireless efforts on his first development, Alonzo demonstrated his ardent desire to build the best for his customers.
Alonzo gained complete responsibility of the company after graduating from the University of Houston with a degree in finance.
His office, once nothing more than his pick-up truck when he was landing small building contracts, has grown to more than 40 staff members in his administrative offices. The company also typically manages numerous subcontractors per job, who in turn employ several hundred workers.
Cantu Construction adopted a philosophy of diversification and industry leadership - a timeless doctrine that has kept the company going strong even during the toughest economic periods. Alonzo took the South Texas building industry to the next level * by bringing the newest architecture designs, construction techniques and materials.*
"We are trendsetters," Alonzo says. "Not followers."
By the 1980s under Alonzo`s direction, Cantu Construction spanned the entire real estate spectrum - from land acquisition and development to the design and construction of thousands of fine homes, hospitals, banks and commercial plazas. The company`s commitment to versatile construction and development has been a major source of the company`s success and growth.
